EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY - UPDATED CIVIL SERVICE TESTING POLICIES

  • For the security of the examination process, video cameras are used to monitor and record all examination sessions.
  • Only a 10-key calculator and pencils are allowed in the Testing area. These items will be provided to you - you will not be allowed to use your own.
  • No one is allowed to test without a photo ID - NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Only your photo ID and approved calculator are permitted in the Testing area.
  • It is your responsibility to upload documents to your online application prior to the day of testing. If you need assistance uploading documents, our office hours are 8:30am - 4:00pm Monday - Friday.
  • Depending on the exam being taken, the updated online application and all uploaded, relevant documents, such as a resume, college transcripts, and/or staff development course listings, will be provided to you the day of testing for the completion of the exam. However, all documents will be collected with your completed exam to be used in the calculation of the exam score.
    Note: Anything uploaded after your examination will not be considered for scoring purposes.
  • DO NOT bring any documents with you to this examination.

 

Beginning May 20, 2013, Gregory Drive between First and Oak Streets will be
closed for construction. Visitor parking for Document Services/Campus Mail
Distribution and Staff Human Resources will be rerouted to parking lot E28, on
the south side of Armory Avenue between First and Oak Streets. See map.

Civil Service employees work in numerous areas of employment including Clerical, Crafts/Trades, Professional/Technical, and Services. Civil Service positions are filled through a Civil Service testing process. Names of qualified applicants who pass examinations are placed on employment registers in the order of examination score. When there are position vacancies, applicants are referred to hiring departments for interviews according to their placement on employment registers. In general, applicants for Civil Service employment must be residents of the State of Illinois. Examples of Civil Service classifications include: Accountant, Building Service Worker, Business Manager, Carpenter, Driver, Electrician, Kitchen Helper, Medical Assistant, Office Support Associate, Police Officer, Staff Nurse, Technical Support Specialist, and Veterinary Technician.
